VERTIGO TREATMENT
VERTIGO TREATMENT
Vertigo can make you feel as though you or the room around you is spinning, moving, or tilting. These episodes may occur suddenly and can interfere with walking, driving, working, exercising, and completing everyday activities.
Vertigo may also cause dizziness, nausea, unsteadiness, blurred vision, difficulty focusing, or a fear of falling. Symptoms can develop when you change positions, turn your head, roll over in bed, look upward, or stand after sitting or lying down.
Dr. Ariyo and our experienced team provide individualized vertigo treatment and vestibular rehabilitation to help patients regain their balance, reduce dizziness, and move with greater confidence.
One common cause of vertigo is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, also known as BPPV. This condition occurs when small particles within the inner ear move into an area where they disrupt the body’s balance signals. BPPV often causes brief but intense episodes of spinning after specific head movements or position changes.
Your treatment begins with a thorough evaluation of your symptoms, balance, eye movements, walking ability, medical history, and the situations that trigger your dizziness. This evaluation helps our physical therapists identify the most appropriate treatment approach for your needs.
When BPPV is identified, treatment may include specialized repositioning techniques designed to guide the displaced particles back to the correct area of the inner ear. Many patients experience significant improvement after receiving the appropriate treatment.
Depending on the cause of your symptoms, your treatment plan may also include vestibular rehabilitation exercises that improve balance, visual stability, coordination, strength, and your ability to tolerate movement.
Your personalized program may include balance training, gaze stabilization exercises, walking activities, head movement exercises, fall-prevention strategies, and a home exercise plan. We will carefully adjust each activity based on your symptoms, comfort level, and progress.
Our goal is to address the source of your dizziness whenever possible, reduce your risk of falling, and help you return safely to the activities you enjoy.
You should not ignore recurring dizziness, vertigo, or balance problems. These symptoms can increase your risk of falls and may indicate a condition that requires evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional.
